Changes in Name or Contact Information
Please notify the parish office of any change in name, address, or phone number.
Parish Registration
So that our community may be better served, all parishioners should be registered. We must know you belong to our parish in order to issue letters in connection with sponsorship of Baptism, Confirmation, and Matrimony, as well as school and character references. Individuals may register by contacting the parish office.
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA)
Are you interested in learning more about becoming Catholic or renewing your Catholic faith? Are you baptized but have not received the other sacraments and would like to? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) program can help. We begin with a time of inquiry where any question about the Catholic faith tradition can be asked. Some find their questions answered, and that is enough for them. Others join us in prayer and discernment to see if they wish to continue the process of becoming Catholic Christian. We meet on Sundays after the 10:30 a.m. Mass beginning in September of each year. Please call the parish office for more information.
Bulletin
Entries for the parish bulletin must be turned in to the parish office by noon on Tuesday if they are to appear in the upcoming Sunday's bulletin.
Envelopes
Parish envelopes act as an important sign of our commitment to the welfare of the parish. Regular use of parish envelopes provides the pastor with a record of parish income, thus allowing for future financial planning. Contributions enclosed in envelopes are recorded at the office, and parishioners are provided with a record of their contribution at year's end. Contact the parish office to receive envelopes. Contributions to St. John's Parish may also be made by automatic withdrawl from your checking or savings account. Please call the parish office for details.
Appointments with Priests
Appointments may be made by calling or talking directly to a priest. Whenever possible, schedule the appointment with the priest with whom you wish to speak prior to stopping by the rectory.
Ministry of Care Program
Among the Church's ministries, the care of the sick, aging, and frail is essential. The Ministry of Care program is an outreach to those who are unable to participate in the celebration of Eucharist because of illness or age. If you are interested in learning more about this program, please contact the rectory.
Communion to the Homebound or Ill
A priest will bring Holy Communion around the time of First Friday to those parishioners unable to attend Mass regularly. Contact the parish office to make the necessary arrangements. A weekly Mass or communion service is said at Ellen Memorial Health Care Center for the residents. Parish priests serve the following facilities for pastoral visits and distribution of Holy Communion: Ellen Memorial Health Care Center, Wayne County Memorial Hospital, Mallard Meadows and Bethany Village.
Gifts and Bequests
There are many generous and creative ways for you to give to your parish. One of the most common ways is to include your Church in your will. Other methods of giving are stocks and bonds, property, life insurance policies, jewelry, or antiques. The parish office has several sample forms of bequest to make your action easy.
Cemeteries
The parish maintains cemeteries at three locations: St. John the Evangelist's and St. Mary Magdalen's in Honesdale, and St. Joseph's in Rileyville. Cemetery plots are available. Contact the parish office for information.
